At the Same Table

At the same table,
Friends and walking upwards,
Freedom is sent by the labor of caring for your own continuance,
That work is the break between the top and lower half wing in flight,
Moments do not decide the whereabouts of a landing place,
Flight is the Caretaker's home,

He and She,
their steadiness and symmetry, exchangeable,
The walk without speech,
A quietness in the old fence posts,
Their wire having recorded the weight of a leaning luncheon,
Hoof prints deeply below the tall tufts of seasonal hollyhock,
A compliment alongside the stress of beingness in aloneness,
Affirmation to settlement,
no house is built and necessity is set free,

The deaf little boy-child,
Naked, wandering,
hands cupped over his ears,

The imagining child-girl,
Clothed and erasing chores,
If his hands were to do her work's listening,
While her imagination would find him,
Would they meet with the same shadow,
indistinct and understanding?

The images of Having To Be,
Its long hours and stretchless heart,
Vanity is that portion of a man
which forgets the poorest nerve,

Response and the kissing daytime,
Desert, the yellow workshop
of sameness and subtlety,
It is not there,
The quest for the dragons leads to pregnancies from them,
Straining the equator beneath their eyelids,
The monks learn again what was
not understood thousands ago,

Raise the birdhouse!
Watch the canary-finch travel
with its ancient gooseberry,
As a portion of remembering,
Of living and creation,
One's own Self selflessness multiplying eternally,
Presence within the embrace of Time engulfs Time-limited,
Limitlessness gathers Emotion, Mortality and Love,
Gives it to the inventor of the Gooseberry plant,
The painter of the Finches,
The infant librarian of Eternity.
